Lindenwood University’s undergraduate degree program in human resource management has received full endorsement from the prestigious Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The recognition acknowledges adherence to curriculum guidelines established by the professional organization in 2005.
SHRM created the Human Resources Curriculum Guidebook and Templates as a way to provide a level of standardization for human resource education. The guidebook identifies 13 minimum core topics and 11 elective topics required to complete a degree in the discipline.
Lindenwood also received praise from SHRM for framing its program within the operation of its School of Business and Entrepreneurship. The alignment is strongly supported by the organization, as is the university’s employment of faculty with real-world experience.
“Virtually all of them were human resource and business professionals before they became professors,” said Don Otto, associate professor of management and human resources. “They have a special way of teaching theory and then supplementing it with practical knowledge of how to apply it. We’re proud to say our approach and our curriculum produce graduates who are more than prepared to enter the workforce.”
Otto also credited Evelyn Hendrix, PsyD, assistant professor, School of Business and Entrepreneurship, as a key contributor to the success of the program.
“Dr. Hendrix is chair of the department and has largely been the creator of the human resources program here,” Otto said. “She’s done a wonderful job in connecting the Lindenwood chapter of SHRM with the St. Charles chapter, and the relationship creates great learning and networking opportunities for our students.”
