Lindenwood University’s choirs, orchestra and jazz band will offer their fall concerts at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 16, 19 and 20, respectively,in the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts. Admission is free for all three concerts; the Scheidegger Center is located at 2300 West Clay Street, west of First Capitol Drive, in St. Charles.
The LU choirs concert on Monday, Nov. 16, will feature a variety of songs, ranging from the African American Spiritual, “Roll, Jordan, Roll,” to a very unpredictable composition, “National Weather Forecast.” Lindenwood’s premiere vocal ensemble, Voices Only, will present favorites such as “Eleanor Rigby” and Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer.” All of the choirs will come together to sing holiday favorites to close out the evening.
The Symphonic Orchestra performance on Thursday, Nov. 19, will be led by Shane Williams, Maestro and Assistant Professor of Music. The orchestra will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s ‘Impresario Overture,’ Aaron Copland’s ‘Fanfare for the Common Man,’ Jacques Offenbach’s ‘Orpheus in the Underworld,’ and other works by Jean Sibelius, Franz Schubert, and George Gershwin.”
The Lindenwood University Jazz Band concert on Friday, Nov. 20, will feature contemporary and traditional big band literature from well known composers to original music by Lindenwood students. Some of the highlights include “I Remember Clifford,” “How High the Moon,” “Cousin Jeff” and the vocal “I Can’t Believe That You’re in Love With Me,” as recorded by the New York Voices. The Fort Zumwalt South Jazz band will begin the concert, so be there for a great night of jazz.
