Annual Lindy Awards March 25
March 18, 2010
The Lindenwood University School of Communications will present the sixth annual Lindy Awards at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in the Emerson Black Box Theatre at the J. Scheidegger Center.
Rene Knott of KSDK-TV News Channel 5 will serve as a presenter during the show, which recognizes the work of students and faculty members and annually designates a University graduate as the recipient of a Communicator of the Year Award.
“The Lindys are akin to Lindenwood’s version of the Emmy Awards,” said Peter Carlos, LUTV general manager and associate professor of communications. “Categories range from on-air talent to technical lighting and everything in between, and we give awards for a job well done in each of those areas.”
Glen Cerny (’74), former general manager of Lindenwood’s radio station, KCLC, will be named the 2010 Communicator of the Year. In 1990, he began teaching at Lindenwood and served as the faculty athletic representative until his departure from the University in 2001. He currently is the director of university broadcasting at New Mexico State University, where he oversees the school’s NPR and PBS stations. Cerny was inducted into Lindenwood’s athletic hall of fame in 2008.
During his visit to the Lindenwood campus, Cerny will participate in a panel discussion about the state of broadcasting and future trends in communication. The event is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 24 in Room 117 of Harmon Hall.
A special reception is also planned at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, in the Emerson Black Box Theater. Guests will be invited to visit with Cerny before the Lindy Awards show begins at 7 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Carlos at (636) 949-4513 or at email@example.com.
