Lindenwood to Host Philanthropy Summit for Businesses, Charities

June 17, 2010

Lindenwood University will host a day-long “Grow Philanthropy Summit” July 29 for area non-profits, charitable organizations and local business owners and philanthropists to come together and discuss ways in which to better the community through philanthropic strategic partnerships.

The event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include an opening address by the Rev. Jerry Paul of the Deaconess Foundation and a lunch presentation by Julie Turner, Ph.D., of the Lindenwood Nonprofit Administration faculty, as well as breakout sessions on partnerships, community organizing, the media, and volunteer programs. The event concludes with a panel discussion on “Best Practices in Philanthropy,” moderated by Victoria Schmitt Babb, vice president of Paradigm Shift Studio.

The idea for the summit came about through conversation between Turner, Babb and Shanna Schiavon, president of MORE Marketing. All three work in community service in different ways and wanted to provide a forum through which nonprofit and charitable organizations, along with philanthropists and business owners, could come together in one place and at one time to engage in meaningful conversations on philanthropic strategic partnerships and gain insight and strategies from best practices currently being used in the field.

“It is our hope that as a result of our collective participation at this event that we all will feel even better equipped and energized to continue or to embark on new strategies to foster economic growth and improve our communities and the lives of those we touch,” Turner said.

Registration for the event costs $49 for students or $99 for non-students and can be done online at Questions can be sent to Turner at
