Dr. Keith Russell has been named chair of the English Department at Lindenwood University-Belleville; he previously served as an associate professor of English at the university’s St. Charles, Mo., campus.
Russell has chaired hiring committees for the School of Humanities and also assisted in the development of an English Preparedness Program for international student at the St. Charles campus. He plans to bring his passion for language to the Belleville campus, where he will work to develop a student writing center, continue teaching English courses, and oversee the hiring and management of faculty within the department.
“From the variety of university courses I have taught, I have acquired the expertise and experience necessary to help create a vibrant English Department for the students and faculty of LU-Belleville,” Russell said. “I am delighted to be a part of this community.”
Russell has also served as an instructor at Waldorf College in Forest City, Ia., and at the Language Education Center of Chonnam National University in Kwang-ju, South Korea.
Ranging from literary criticism to original poetry, his written works have achieved publication in renowned academic journals across the world.
“I am absolutely delighted that Dr. Russell is joining us at LU-Belleville,” said Dr. Paige Mettler-Cherry, dean of academics at Lindenwood. “His knowledge of LU campus operations, combined with a stellar academic background, makes him extremely important in the process of growing our day program here in Belleville. It is a tremendous boost for me to have him here.”
Russell earned a bachelor’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University in 1995, a master’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1999, and a doctorate from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 2007.
