Theatre to Present Comedy ‘She Stoops to Conquer’

January 18, 2011

The Lindenwood University Department of Theatre will present the comedy “She Stoops to Conquer” at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 3-5 in the university’s Emerson Black Box Theater.

General admission tickets cost $10 and are available at the Lindenwood University Box Office, (636) 949-4433. The box office and the Emerson Theater are located in Lindenwood’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts on the main St. Charles campus. The Scheidegger Center is at 2300 W. Clay St., one block west of First Capitol Drive. Tickets are also available online at

Oliver Goldsmith’s comedy, which debuted in 1773, follows the snobbish Charles Marlow, who happens to be impossibly nervous around upper class women (although he has no problem flirting with barmaids and servant girls). En route to a visit with a family friend, set up in hopes he would find a match in the friend’s daughter, he falls victim to a prank, touching off a series of hilarious escapades.

“Filled with misunderstandings, mistaken identities, love triangles, secrets, and culture clashes, ‘She Stoops to Conquer’ is a lighthearted romantic comedy surrounding two suitors and their ladies,” said Donna Northcott, director of the production.

The cast includes Blaine Adams, Yumeho Asai, Joe Bayne, Shannon Daugherty, Cole Figus, Oyunaa Gavaasuren, Michael Ginsburg, Wes Jenkins, Jimmy Krawczyk, Melissa Maddox, Devon Norris, Brian Paladin, Cole Rommel, Jenifer Sabbert, Heather Schlitt, and Tasha Zebowski.

In addition to directing the play, Northcott also is costume designer. The stage manager is Carolyn Gertsch. Other crew members include Tim Poertner on lights and set/scenery, Blaine Adams on props, and Michael Ginsburg on sound.
