Lindenwood-Belleville Receives Chamber Award

The Ambassador Club of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce honored Lindenwood University-Belleville with the Commitment to Community Award on Thursday, Mar. 3.

The award is presented quarterly to a Chamber member who demonstrates commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and/or businesses in the greater Belleville area.

“We at Lindenwood-Belleville are deeply honored to accept the Belleville Chamber of Commerce’s Commitment to Community Award,” said Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Jerry Bladdick. “The award stands as a testament to the important friendship we share with Belleville and its citizens. We look forward to growing that partnership even more in the future as we continue to engage the public and take an active role within the community.”

Since Lindenwood University-Belleville began offering evening classes for the adult learner in 2003, the university has sought to make a home for itself in the Belleville community. Eight years later, it now serves more than 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students in both day and evening programs.

The university’s students and employees consistently contribute their efforts to the success of community events, such as Belleville’s “Paint the Town” event in October of 2010, as well as the city’s Christmas Parade each November. Union Elementary School students also benefit from the generosity of university staff through tutoring and sponsorship programs.

“Lindenwood University-Belleville is a campus that is rich with this city’s history,” said President James D. Evans. “We are thrilled to be able to interact so closely with the community and pay tribute to that history while providing St. Clair County residents with a quality university close to home.”

As the campus undergoes renovation and construction to meet the needs of its growing student body, Lindenwood-Belleville maintains nearly exclusive use of local businesses to facilitate these changes.

The university has also partnered with the surrounding police departments to provide police officers the opportunity of working as members of the campus security squad while earning a Lindenwood education at the same time. Creating more jobs and contributing to the Belleville economy are additional ways that Lindenwood is demonstrating its dedication to the community.
