Lindenwood University to Host Criminal Justice Institute

The Lindenwood University Criminal Justice Department will host its third annual criminal justice institute from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 4- 6. The three-day camp will take place on the St. Charles campus and will present participants age 14-18 with a wide range of activities and presentations from criminal justice professionals.

A mock homicide investigation will be led by Darren Marhanka, Lindenwood professor and former member of theMajor Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, evidence analysis will be conducted in a Lindenwood chemistry lab, and students will participate in eyewitness identification and criminal profiling exercises. Presentations will be delivered by representatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration, The Federal Bureau of Investigation, and local law enforcement agencies.

β€œThe camp is a fun and educational experience for students who are exploring careers in criminal justice, and for those who are simply interested in criminology,” said Jeanie Thies, Ph.D., associate professor of criminal justice and former criminal psychologist. β€œThey will gain hands-on experience while exploring issues related to crime and punishment that affect our communities.”

The cost to attend the camp is $150 per person, which includes lunch each day. Overnight accommodations are also available for an additional fee of $80, which also includes breakfast and dinner each day.

Lindenwood will offer two hours of transferrable undergraduate college credit to participating students. The course credit fee is $200 per individual and must be paid directly to the university.

Registration is limited. For more information or to register, call Thies at 314-494-2097.
