Three Days after Shooting, LU Student Goes to Class

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy and Lindenwood University student Nina Osia, who was shot in an exchange with a Cedar Hill man earlier this month, will be recognized for her valor and her commitment to academics in a ceremony Monday at Lindenwood’s South County extension site at 12224 Tesson Ferry Road.

Osia, who studies criminal justice at Lindenwood, was shot in the ankle early on a Friday morning and sustained a broken fibula. Just three days later, she turned in her criminology homework and shared her harrowing experience with her classmates.

“I went to class but I was obviously on some medication and maybe not 100 percent,” said Osia. “I have been working on my degree for too long to go backwards. I wasn’t about to let this incident slow me down.”

Osia, from Crystal City, will be joined by Lindenwood University President James D. Evans, PhD, and her boss, Sheriff Glenn Boyer.
