Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Residence Hall on May 31

May 2, 2013

The groundbreaking ceremony for Lindenwood University-Belleville’s $4 million residence hall is scheduled to take place on May 31. Lindenwood University’s Board of Directors voted in February to begin construction on the new dormitory as soon as possible.

LU-Belleville administrators are working closely with the City of Belleville, Blanton Construction, and Musler Engineering to have the dorm ready for students early in the fall 2013 semester. The university has obtained the appropriate municipal permits for construction.

“The City of Belleville is extremely excited about the continued growth at Lindenwood University-Belleville,” said Mark Eckert, Mayor of Belleville. “This dorm marks a significant next step in that growth, and we are excited to be working with Lindenwood to make it a reality.”

As a result of the new dorm, campus administrators anticipate the total day student population to increase from the current 780 to 1,000 in the fall. Considering the addition of more degree programs for evening students, LU-Belleville’s total student body is expected to exceed 2,000 in the next academic year.

After many years of working with the university and leading the construction of eight dorms on the St. Charles campus, Blanton Construction has become the primary overseer of the new dorm at LU-Belleville.

“It’s exciting to see the beginnings of dorm construction at Lindenwood-Belleville,” said Ben Blanton, co-chair of the Lindenwood University Board of Directors and former president of Blanton Construction. “I was on the ground floor of all the growth and construction at Lindenwood University in St. Charles in 1991. It’s interesting to be able to witness similar things happening at the Belleville campus now. The City of Belleville has been very supportive from the beginning, and it’s a pleasure to work with them.”

In addition to the new dorm, LU-Belleville continues to develop its facilities. The former New Freedom Baptist was recently demolished and will be converted into additional parking, thus making up for space lost due to the construction of the dorm.
