New Art Exhibit, Falun Gong, to be Featured
February 21, 2013
Lindenwood University-Belleville is proud to showcase the traveling art exhibit Falun Gong, featuring the paintings and story of the Falun Gong, a “peaceful belief persecuted in China.”
Public viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. On March 13, hours will be extended to 6 p.m. with a never-before-released film on the Falun Gong at 7 p.m., followed by a guest speaker presentation and question-and-answer period.
The movement, also called Falun Dafa, is a practice rooted in traditional Chinese culture and consists of meditation, gentle exercises, and a moral philosophy that focuses on values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. While the Falun Gong is practiced in more than 100 countries around the world, the Chinese government began persecution of its devotees in 1999. The extraordinary art in this exhibit depicts both the moral philosophy and the physical torture of the sect members.
The exhibit closes March 22.
