Department of Nonprofit Administration to Host Youth Leadership Summit
January 23, 2014
The Lindenwood University Department of Nonprofit Administration will host its fifth annual Lion’s Pride Summer Youth Leadership Project from Wednesday, June 11, through Friday, June 13. The three-day summit will take place daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the St. Charles campus.
The conference is meant to recognize and encourage high school students who possess an affinity for helping others and who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills. Students will be involved in a series of intensive workshops and hands-on experiences designed to immerse them in the workings of the nonprofit sector. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of their roles in social change, and the conference will connect them to specific opportunities to act in service to others.
Applications will be received by high school-age participants who will be completing their freshmen, sophomore, or junior year at the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year. Accepted applicants will receive a detailed program agenda closer to the conference date.
The cost to attend the conference is $225 per student, which includes workshop participation, a campus room, meals, a one-day trip to visit St. Louis-based nonprofit organizations, social outings, transportation by shuttle to service projects and site visits, a t-shirt, a tote bag, and a gift certificate to Lindenwood’s Spirit Shoppe. Scholarship support will be provided on an as-needed, as-demonstrated basis.
To qualify as a nominee, students must complete an application form and respond to essay questions related to service and include a letter of recommendation by an individual familiar with the student’s commitment to service.
Lindenwood will offer participants who will be of junior or senior status in the fall of 2014 up to two college credits for participation. Additional fees and course requirements will apply.
Deadline for applications is March 1, and registration is limited to 25 students. To register or for more information, contact Julie Turner, PhD, assistant professor and department chair of nonprofit administration, at 636-949-4652 or firstname.lastname@example.org.Related Items:
