Xiong Rongyuan, chairman of Wenshan University in China, recently presented to Lindenwood University the poem below, “Ode to Lindenwood.” Wenshan University, located in Wenshan City in China’s Yunnan Province, has been Lindenwood University’s sister university for nearly a decade.
Ode to Lindenwood
a palace of learning, filled
with hope and green ideals
by walls of heart.
The school's gates open
onto vibrant grass,
are lodestones leading
to the sanctum within
where black and yellow glow, while
outside, in gleaming red brick
and grey tile
shine your incomparable style,
your lofty mind in tower and theater,
new talents in lawn and sports arena.
Your secret: concern for what is
and thirst for what could be:
you bear the colors of the world
and their cultures
as a car its passengers
towards a common end.
Your telescope and indoor track
where wonders occur:
these are you, Lindenwood,
just as you
are the beauty of my heart.
These, too, are yours, my Lindenwood:
my love, deeply moved by you,
and my passion, truly left for you.
The chairman said the poem was inspired by a visit he made to Lindenwood in summer of 2013.
