Race Relations Dialogue held at Lindenwood University-Belleville

March 24, 2014

Lindenwood University-Belleville’s Student Government Association hosted the Nations Group Race Relation Dialogue on March 25 at 7 p.m. in the Lindenwood Auditorium on campus. The event was free and open to the public.

The dialogue consisted of a panel of students and education leaders discussing themes of poverty and race, media depictions of race, and the influence of race on politics, religion, and education. The audience also had a chance to participate in the discussion.

Those invited to the panel were Freddie Wills, Jr., assistant dean for Washington University; Chavon Curry, educator at Gateway Elementary in St. Louis Mo.; and Lindenwood Belleville students Trai Ricardo Thorney, Jose Jimenez, Jr., and Jevar Glover.

“Because Lindenwood Belleville is a small campus with a large body of international students, our students are very globally aware,” said Jenny Baudendistel, director of student life and leadership at Lindenwood. “Not only are they exposed to other races, but they also learn more about other cultures and the challenges that they face. I am very thankful that the Lindenwood Student Government organized this event on our campus.”
