Patzius Selected by Students as Top Professor

June 6, 2014

The Lindenwood Student Government Association (LSGA) has named Billi Patzius, PhD, the 2014 Professor of the Year.

Patzius is currently an associate professor in the School of Human Services, chair of the Criminal Justice Department, and advisor for the Criminal Justice Student Association. She joined Lindenwood in 2007 as an accelerated programs instructor and became a traditional program instructor at the university in 2012. Her previous professional experience also includes work with at-risk youth in a variety of arenas.

Lindenwood students submitted their Professor of the Year nominations in April. Patzius received the most nominations and was presented with the award by two LSGA representatives during a Faculty Council meeting in May on the St. Charles campus.

Many nominator comments praised Patzius’ ability to make learning fun, her commitment to going above and beyond to assist students in coursework and career placement efforts, and her overall dedication to helping students achieve their goals.

“She has selflessly given her extra time, and she consistently provides the Criminal Justice Student Association with opportunities and support for the group,” wrote one student.

Another nominator wrote, “Without her, I would not be the student I am today and I possibly may have lost interest in my major.”

Patzius expressed surprise and gratitude at being named the award recipient and also reiterated the passion she has for her profession.

“Receiving the LSGA Professor of the Year Award has been the proudest moment of my professional career,” she said. “I put forth a lot of time and energy into teaching and advising because our students deserve it, but being recognized for doing something I absolutely love is amazing, and I am so very grateful to my students.”
