Prospective Students

Thank you for considering the recreation, sport and tourism administration program at Lindenwood University. Lindenwood University offers the only recreation degree program in the greater St. Louis area. Our program is focused on helping students make a positive impact in society by improving individuals, families, and community well-being through innovative and practical recreation, sport and tourism services.

Lindenwood University is proud to provide students with an experienced and dedicated faculty. The recreation administration department offers a personalized experience through small classes and close relationships between faculty and students. The faculty blends theoretical concepts within their field of study with real world applications to give students a diverse educational experience in a friendly environment.

Our dynamic curriculum involves an extensive classroom education coupled with in-depth hands-on experiences. Experiential education is important to the curriculum and to that end; students are involved in planning and leading multiple recreational programs for individuals and groups within the university and to the outside community. In addition, students are immersed in professional development opportunities through attending professional conferences and workshops allowing students to network with practitioners and learn about current trends in the field. Field trips, guest speakers, and in-depth analyses of leisure issues are also utilized.

The capstone of the recreation, sport and tourism program is an extensive internship with a professional recreation agency. The internship requires a minimum of 400 clock hours over a minimum of 10 weeks. This experience gives students a high-level exposure to a possible vocational career in leisure services. Graduates are currently working in various positions for community recreation agencies, retirement communities, resorts, non-profit organizations, adventure outfitters, collegiate athletics, and tourism and cruise lines while others are in graduate school in a variety of disciplines.
