Guide:
Disabling "Sleep" Mode

Summary:
Instructions for disabling "sleep" mode on your computer.

Description:
When a computer enters "sleep" mode, it may cause your login to ResNet to expire, forcing you to login again. This guide will give you instructions on disabling this mode, allowing you to stay logged in without interruptions.

Q: Why would I be required to login more than once?

A: When you logout manually, reboot your computer, unplug your network connection, or when anything is done to disrupt the connection between you and the Cisco Clean Access servers, you will have to login again to regain access. You will also be forced to login again when the weekly revalidation takes place.

Q: Every time I leave my computer alone, when I come back I am forced to relogin. This is annoying!

A: Your computer is probably entering "sleep" mode. This is designed to save electricity when you are not using your computer. Unfortunately, this may indicate to the Cisco Clean Access server that you are leaving the network, and force you to login again. This guide will instruct you how to disable this feature.

  1. Right click in the desktop area (not on an icon) and select Properties.

  2. Click the tab labeled Screen Saver.

  3. Click Power.

  4. Under Power Schemes change System Standby to Never.

  5. Click OK and OK again to confirm your settings.
