History
In 2007, English professors Alexander Balogh and Michael Fetters gathered in an office, discussed the possibility of creating an outlet for writing at Lindenwood University, a new journal that would help to inspire students on campus to a renewed interest in writing, but even more so, to create a venue for contemporary literature across the United States and the world. This vision was soon realized under the title Untamed Ink, a departure from the previous Lindenwood focused and now long-defunct Griffin journal that had served well as an outlet for Lindenwood students’ and faculty’s creativity.

In 2008, Untamed Ink celebrated the release of its first issue. The journal sought to bridal the untamed creativity of writers from across the country, bringing world renowned authors such as Howard Schwartz and Michael Castro, into the company of less known but very talented writers, one of whom (Susan K. Salzer) would go on to win the 2009 Spur Award for her story “Cornflower Blue.”

Issue 2 contains the latest works of world-renowned authors Jack Hirschman, David Meltzer & Michael Rothenberg, as well as highly respected “regional” authors, including Simon Perchik, Joe Benevento, Colleen McKee & Chris Mazauskas.

Mission Statement
We seek to publish the best contemporary poetry and fiction.

While we have no particular “type” of poem or short story in mind for what “fits” our journal, we seek out those poets and writers who can capture that untamed creativity and can shape it into a true masterpiece, regardless of the techniques used, the style employed, or the approach taken.

All writers love language, and we are no different, but we look for that quality in writing which separates the great from the good. That is the essence of Untamed Ink.
