More than 300 alumni, friends, students, and community leaders attended an anniversary celebration Wednesday for Lindenwood University's Belleville Campus, which included a groundbreaking for Lindenwood's new Welcome Center.

Lindenwood University fashion design graduate Dragana Jovic was named the top prize winner of Bakers’ “Project: Design!”competition during St. Louis Fashion Week. She was selected as recipient of the $30,000 prize package by a panel of judges from among six designers invited to show their collections during the event.

Lindenwood University will unveil its new regional studies journal, “The Confluence,” in November with a selection of thoroughly researched, well-written, thought-provoking articles on the region’s past, present and future.

Lindenwood University has been named a host venue for the region’s First St. Louis Film Conference. Presentations and panel discussion will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, in the Emerson Black Box Theater and Charter Communications LUTV HD Studio, located in the university’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.

The Lindenwood University Theatre Department will open its 2009-10 season with a stage adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved book, “The Hobbit.” Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 through 31 and Nov. 6 and 7 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 8. Performance will be in the Bezemes Family Theatre of Lindenwood’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.

Lindenwood University is taking part in Domestic Violence Week Oct. 12 through 16 with a presentation by noted author and anti-violence activist Jackson Katz, Ph.D., and a display of t-shirts made by women who have been victims of violence.

Lindenwood University’s high-definition cable channel, LUTV, is now streaming online at www.lindenwood.edu and airing on AT&T U-verse channel 99. The station’s lineup of more than 30 programs had previously been available only on Charter Communications channel 989 and Florissant City Television channel 10; LUTV is still available at both locations.

Lindenwood University-Belleville will host free, informative sessions about its accelerated evening degree programs through the Lindenwood College for Individualized Education (LCIE). Upcoming sessions are scheduled to take place from 2-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13; from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15; from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21; from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27; and from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, in the main campus building.
