Lindenwood University’s Plaster School of Business & Entrepreneurship Collegiate DECA Competition Team earned nine awards at the International DECA Competition in Washington, D.C. The awards ceremony was held the evening of Saturday, April 14, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va. More than 1,000 students from all 50 states and several countries participated.
“I am very proud of how our team competed at internationals this year,” said Braeden Westhusing, Lindenwood chapter president. “We have become a very powerful group of competitors. We have made a name for Lindenwood and ourselves in just a few years. I cannot wait to see how our team grows and continues to succeed.”
The Lindenwood University team earned nine awards: three role play awards, four top-10 awards, a first-place award, and a third-place team award:
- Third Place Team in Finance & Accounting
- First Place - ENGAGE Online Case Competition - Savannah Bice
- Top-10 - Banking Finance Case Competition - Savannah Bice
- Top-10 - Entrepreneurship Starting a Business - Jamie Grecco
- Top-10 - Marketing Management - Carli Gogol
- Top-10 - Banking Finance Case Competition - Jonathan Dunlop
- Top Role Play and Exam Score in Banking Finance - Savannah Bice
- Top Role Play in Marketing Management - Carli Gogol
- Top Role Play and Exam Score in Banking Finance - Jonathan Dunlop
In addition to competition events, the DECA team dedicates time to service projects with high school DECA teams and recently formed a first-of-its-kind DECA Consultancy, which works to help solve real-world business problems for local businesses at no charge.
“These students are the cream of the crop,” said Craig Felzien, director of the Duree Center for Entrepreneurship and DECA advisor for the Lindenwood team. “They are dedicated and willing to help others succeed. As our program grows, so will our success. We are working to recruit high school DECA team members to attend Lindenwood University and join us in this amazing effort.”
