The purpose of the EdD program is to develop applied research competencies in obtaining and synthesizing information for the solution of educational problems.
Only a small fraction of the population in the United States holds a doctorate. In the competitive job market today, an EdD (Doctor of Education) from the Department Educational Leadership sets you apart, no matter the field. The leadership, research, and instructional skills you learn in the EdD program translate into many professional environments. Almost all students in the program work full time in K-12 public schools, community colleges, health care, and both the business and nonprofit sectors. The program offers a mix of core courses, where all EdD students are together, and specialized courses for individual strands.
The purpose of the EdD program is to develop applied research competencies in obtaining and synthesizing information for the solution of educational problems. The EdD is designed to deepen the content competencies and applied leadership skills of candidates following the completion of a master’s degree. Doctoral students write a traditional dissertation, although writing is embedded throughout the program. We pride ourselves on the support we offer our students during dissertation writing.
Since 2007, we have offered courses at both the St. Charles campus and the Southwest campus. The highly respected faculty in the EdD program have a wide range of experience in education and remain current in the field by presenting and publishing their research.
Here at Lindenwood we offer two tracks for the EdD: Educational Administration and Instructional Leadership.
An Educational Administration track is for K-12 educators who wish to pursue careers in school administration, such as principal or superintendent. This track leads to advanced certification for school and district administrators in the state of Missouri.
The Instructional Leadership track is for anyone who wishes to maximize his or her instructional skills, in either a K-12 school district, higher education, training, human resources, nonprofit, or other context. The Instructional Leadership track has four emphasis areas:
