IMF 54303 Genre Fiction as Literature:
Focused Young Adult Literature

Instructor: Nicole McInnes

Class Type: Literature

Course Description: This course will focus on a deep study of four young adult fiction texts plus a week of independent reading, exploration, and analysis. The four assigned texts are all cutting-edge, recently published, and created in a variety of styles and formats—from a sci-fi graphic novel to a sports-focused contemporary novel to a National Book Award winner to a fantasy-rich collection of stories written by popular YA authors in conjunction with influential “booktubers.” Themes encompassed by these works include family issues, racial identity, sexuality, and many other issues faced by today’s teen readers.
