Lindenwood’s Journal of Undergraduate Scholarship, The Confluence, is an online, interdisciplinary undergraduate journal. The mission of The Confluence is to promote undergraduate research and scholarship and undergraduate/faculty collaborative research and scholarship. To promote Lindenwood University’s commitment to real experience, real success, The Confluence also provides a platform for students to actively engage in the writing and publication process.

Editorial Workflow

The Confluence staff is committed to a timely editorial process. Ideally, publication should take less than 6 months for most submissions. Below is the outline of the workflow for our editorial process.

  1. The Editor emails receipt of submission and request for any missing materials, if needed to Authors/Creators within 1 week of submission.
  2. Editor sends submissions with identifying information removed to Editorial Review Board members.
  3. Editorial Review Board members assess the submission and provide comments and a publication decision to the Editor within 4 weeks after receipt of the work.
  4. Editorial Review Board members consult the Editor with recommendations. The Editor assigns the manuscript to an appropriate Editorial Review Board Member. After consultation, the Editorial Review Board member contacts the Author(s)/creator(s) with a publication decision and feedback.
  5. Feedback my include instructions for Authors/creators to make revisions and return the edited work to the Editorial Review Board member within 4 weeks.
  6. If an Author/creator is asked to make written revisions, the Author/creator contacts The Writing Center at writingcenter@lindenwood.edu to make an appointment(s) to work with a Writing Center Consultant. The Author(s)/creator(s) may make as many appointments as necessary to complete the requested revisions and confer with the Editorial Review Board member to ensure the revisions progress is satisfactory.
  7. The Author(s)/creator(s) submits the revised work to their Editorial Review Board Member. Editorial Review Board members then review the revised manuscript in consultation with the Author(s)/creator(s) and Editor to ensure that the work is acceptable for publication within 2 weeks of submission of revisions.
  8. The Proofing staff then proof and edit the work within 2 weeks of receipt of appropriately formatted and accepted finalized materials.
  9. These proofed and finalized works will be sent back for final approval by the Editorial Review Board member and the Author(s)/creator(s). The Editorial Review Board member and Author(s)/creator(s) should accept or ask for changes within 2 weeks.
  10. The Proofing staff make corrections, conduct a last proof reading and publish the work within 10 weeks.
  11. The Editor or the Editorial Review Board member will verify the final publication on our website to ensure accuracy and submit any changes as necessary.

Editor

The Editor is responsible for receiving submitted manuscripts and creative works, ensuring communication between Editorial Review Board Members, and promoting the timely flow of manuscripts/creative works through the editorial process. Any disputes among Authors and Editorial Review Board members or Manuscript Editors are handled by the Editor with the Editor making final publication decisions. The Editor maintains high standards of published works and works with Editorial Review Board members and Manuscript Editors to train and support them in their duties.

Editorial Review Board

The Editorial Review Board is comprised of Lindenwood faculty with subject matter expertise across the university. Editorial Review Board members vet manuscripts and determine suitability for publication and provide feedback to Authors/creators.

Manuscript Editors

In the event that a submitted manuscript is from a field not currently represented by the Editorial Review Board members, the Editor or Editorial Review Board members may assign the manuscript/creative work to a Manuscript Editor who is faculty at Lindenwood University.
