Course Description

This course will explore fiction written in the last decade for the middle-grade audience, readers ages 8-13. We will explore themes, arcs, and story types by reading short stories and a selection of novels. Readings will include realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and verse novels. We will also explore critical texts that consider how to read and write children's literature. Weekly creative exercises aimed at this target audience will be composed, and all students will revise and submit a final creative piece.
