Course Description
This course is intended to compliment IMF 54600 - The Personal Essay And Memoir. It can be taken together with IMF 54600 when both classes are offered, or it can be taken as a stand-alone craft and literature course. Students in this course will read The Situation and the Story, as well as a number of essays that are discussed in the book. Particular focus is given to the concept of the narrative persona and to the difference between a situation and story in creative nonfiction. There will be weekly writing exercises; however, this course does not feature a workshop.
