Course Description

This course will focus on essays contained in the Best American Science and Nature Writing 2019. We will discuss and analyze each piece, and students will consider how their observations and insights can be applied to their own writing and a future collection. “Science is important because this is how we seek to discover the truth about the world. And this is what makes excellent science and nature writing essential,” explains New York Times best-selling author Sy Montgomery. “Science and nature writing are how we share the truth about the universe with the people of the world.” In this collection, we will discover truths not just about Earth, but about the universe we inhabit. Join us, as we examine such wide-ranging topics as extinction and the search for alien life and revel in the beauty of the natural world.
