How to make an appointment at the Student Counseling and Resource Center (SCRC)
Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Additional hours are available by appointment.
One of the easiest ways to make an appointment with the SCRC is to call us at (618) 239-6161. We are located Old Main Hall M102. You may also just stop by the SCRC and make an appointment in-person with our helpful and friendly front desk staff. We do offer walk-in appointments if staff are available; however, scheduled appointments are highly preferred.
WHO CAN UTILIZE COUNSELING SERVICES?
The SCRC offers free academic, personal and group counseling sessions to all currently enrolled students at Lindenwood University-Belleville. All services are conducted on the Belleville campus during scheduled day and evening availability. Weekend counseling sessions are not permitted.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
All first sessions, known as the intake session, are held with the SCRC's Director, Dr. Ken Kubicek, PhD, LCPC. During the intake session, there will be a lot of information gathered. You will be asked to arrive 15 minutes early for this initial session in order to fill out paperwork, and to read and sign important documents. It sometimes take more than one session to decide upon the therapeutic goals that will be focused on in upcoming therapy sessions. Depending upon the nature of your presenting problem(s), you will most likely be assigned to a graduate-level counseling intern. All of our counseling interns are completing their final course work for the Professional Counseling program at Lindenwood University, and they work under the legal auspices of the Director of the SCRC. At the conclusion of your intake session, you may schedule another counseling session prior to leaving. Evening times may be offered to you by your counseling intern; weekend counseling sessions are not permitted. Depending upon the complexity of your presenting problem(s), there is a chance that you may be assigned to Dr. Kubicek.
In addition, you may be apprised of appropriate group therapy opportunities available to you on the Lindenwood Belleville campus through the SCRC. Additionally, you may be referred to other outside help, depending upon the severity of your presenting problem.
WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?
The Student Counseling and Resource Center (SCRC) takes confidentiality very seriously, and follows all applicable federal and state laws relative to this issue, and also adheres to the ethical rules set by the American Counseling Association and the National Board of Certified Counselors. Professional standards of confidentiality are followed by all counseling staff. Information discussed within a counseling relationship will not be disclosed without written permission of the individual. Rare exceptions to this policy exist when confidential information is needed to protect someone’s health or safety, or is mandated by law.
The SCRC is unable to provide court mandated treatment of any kind. Students in need of these services will be provided with community referrals.
