Join a music group!
Choir is a club that meets weekly for students that enjoy singing and would like to have a positive impact on campus life. There are opportunities for leadership roles with yearly officer voting and representation within the club council. Performance opportunities include performing for campus events, a winter musical, soloing at sporting events, and a spring concert. It is a wonderful opportunity to continue learning about music, and building your resume. A brief informal audition to test vocal range and technique level is given at the beginning of the semester. Music selections will vary in styles and genres.
Instrumental Ensemble is open to all instrumentalist with previous experience on his/her instrument. The fall rehearsals will focus on popular music to perform at sporting events as a “pep band” and the spring semester will focus on a variety of genres and styles. There are opportunities for leadership with yearly officer voting and representation within the club council. Performance opportunities include pep band, campus events, pit for musicals, and a spring concert. A brief audition is required to access musical level and/or part assignments. String Chamber Orchestra
String Chamber Orchestra is open for all instruments of bowed stringed instruments; violin, viola, cello, and upright bass. Previous experience on your instrument is required. Students will rehearse together weekly on music from different periods of classical music. Opportunities to perform and increase musical skills vary to the amount of students involved in the ensemble. Collaborations with the choir, instrumental ensembles, and community organizations are offered throughout the year. A brief audition is required to access musical level and/or assign parts.
Lynx Percussion (drumline) is a club that collaborates with instrumental ensembles and meets two days a week for practices. Open to all students and no experience is necessary. Students with a musical background will be placed based on an assessment of musical level and experience. Students with little or no musical background may be asked to attend a third weekly rehearsal to learn some rhythmic and music fundamentals. The Lynx Percussionists play at football and basketball games, as well as campus events, and local events in the Belleville and Greater St. Louis area. The group is currently working towards building itself into a competitive indoor drumline unit.
