The Spink Family Papers consists of a wide array of materials including handwritten and typed correspondence, telegrams,
Dictaphone dictabelt recordings, photographs, business information related to the Sporting News, and personal financial information.
The majority of the correspondence is directly from or to either J.G. (John George) Taylor Spink or C.C. (Charles) Johnson Spink.
Correspondents include major league baseball commisioners, team owners, notable sports figures (mostly baseball), reporters, and sporting goods manufacturers.
A majority of the papers are in the orginal topical arrangement that the creators put them in when they were boxed. A portion of the papers are in disarray from the way
they were stored prior to Lindenwood receiving them. For the papers that are in disarray, they will be organized topically and chronologically.
The Spink Family Papers are part of the Sporting News Collection. As former owners of the Sporting News, much of the main collection will have a direct and indirect
relationship with the family papers.
