The Lindenwood Theater
Join us as The Saint Louis Ballet presents the second act of The Nutcracker and other engaging pieces from its world-renowned repertoire. The Saint Louis Ballet is the region’s only professional ballet company. The company’s repertoire includes full-length ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and Swan Lake, as well as contemporary works from renowned choreographers George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, and Amy Seiwert, among others. Its classically trained dancers are selected in a competitive national audition and come to St. Louis from all over the world. This performance includes a dazzling excerpt from audience favorite The Nutcracker, as well as some exciting contemporary pieces that demonstrate the company’s artistry and versatility.
Artistic and Executive Director Gen Horiuchi, originally from Tokyo, Japan, moved to the United States after winning the Prix de Lausanne, the international ballet competition in Switzerland, and receiving a scholarship to study at the School of American Ballet. The great George Balanchine invited him to join New York City Ballet and roles were created especially for him. Horiuchi’s Broadway and London credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Song and Dance and the role of Mr. Mistoffelees in Cats. He also choreographed the magnificent opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
This performance is a benefit for the Foundry Art Centre. All proceeds will go to the Foundry to aid in their mission of "connecting people to the arts through exhibitions, studio artists, performances, and education." Visit them today!
