GROWTH Future LOOKING FORWARD LOOKING FORWARD THE SPORTING NEWS COLLECTIONS Lindenwood University acquired The Sporting News archives collection from American City Business Journals. Widely known as the premier baseball trade publication for most of its existence, the collection moved to Lindenwood and will greatly impact sports research. The historic collection includes more than 10,000 books on baseball, football, hockey, basketball, NCAA, and other sports. Lindenwood’s acquisition will allow the public to access this incredible collection of sports information and has significant historical content with some items dating back to the earliest days of baseball. Under Lindenwood’s care, this collection will enrich the sports community in countless ways. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, A LONG-STANDING TRADITION Founded by Mary Easton Sibley, Lindenwood University has a long-standing tradition of progressive education and service to the community of St. Charles. With the inception of LindenGiving, a community outreach endeavor, the central mission of Lindenwood comes alive as the University gives back to its neighbors and honors its rich history. In its inaugural year, LindenGiving distributed 100 thanksgiving meals, raised funds for animal welfare, partnered with the city to clean up riverbeds, and will support local education with a weekend-long project to prepare a St. Charles City school to welcome students for the fall. HISTORIC WARNER HALL WELCOMES ALUMNI In an effort to preserve the historical charm of the Lindenwood campus and create a place for alumni to visit and share their stories, Warner Hall has undergone renovations and eagerly awaits visitors. Located in the heart of the historic campus, Warner Hall has served many purposes since its construction in the 1940s. A dormitory, housing the University President, and being home to many departments, contained within the walls of Warner are some of Lindenwood’s most beautiful stories. Today, Warner Hall serves as the home for Alumni Relations, with yearbooks, historic photos, and alumni memorabilia incorporated into the décor. Lindenwood invites all alumni to visit Warner and share their story. FUN FACTS Did you know that one of Lindenwood’s professors worked on the Manhattan Project? Dr. Walter Grundhauser worked on the project as a research assistant. After the atomic bomb was dropped at Hiroshima, Grundhauser was one of 69 scientists who petitioned President Truman never to use the bomb again. Dr. Grundhauser taught Biological Science at Lindenwood between 1946 and 1990. ATHLETICS SUCCESS Grundhauser incorporated his research into the classrooms at Lindenwood.
