Lindenwood Magazine - Spring 2022

12 13 SPRING 2022 EDITION SPRING 2022 EDITION THE LINDENWOOD THE LINDENWOOD UNDERSTORY The CAMPUS LIFE LETTER FROM A STUDENT Dear Lindenwood Community, Throughout my time at Lindenwood University I have learned many valuable lessons that I will carry with me as I transition into my career as a Behavior Analyst. One of the most important lessons being adaptation. Adapting is difficult whether it is moving to online classes in the midst of a global pandemic, or adapting to a school program you never thought you would find yourself in. For me, when I joined the behavior analysis program at Lindenwood I did not know what to expect. I quickly found myself moving to a new city where I did not know anyone. I started a new program, at a new school and a new job. Despite the terror I felt making many changes, Lindenwood was my backbone. Through Lindenwood and the help of the faculty in the College of Education and Human Services, I was able to find my way. I built not only professional relationships, but personal relationships with my classmates. My professional relationships built through my schooling have allowed me to engage with many professionals who have been pertinent in who I have become as a clinician. My experiences at Lindenwood have shaped who I am now, and who I want to be as a Behavior Analyst. I feel prepared to graduate and move into my professional career knowing that I received a high-quality education from a school that truly cares about their students. I’m beyond thankful and grateful for the time I have spent at such a wonderful university. Sincerely, BROOKLYNN HAWKINSON Brooklynn Hawkinson is from New London, Mo., and completed her master’s in behavior analysis in May. Brooklynn is eager “ to help children with Autism lead the most successful life possible by helping them to learn independent and self-help skills while aiding in the fostering of meaningful relationships between their family and peers.” Her ultimate career goal is to change the stigma of Autism by showing that it is a different ability rather than a disability. CAMPUS LIFE Clayton Herbst quickly fell in love with Lindenwood during a campus tour in 2020. So, it is no surprise that when he began attending the university the following year, he found a community that he says made him feel supported, welcomed, and valued. Herbst knew he wanted students and the community alike, to experience what he had when he began attending Lindenwood, so he set out to do just that. “I really love Lindenwood, and I want to make this school the best it can be, which is why I am involved with so many organizations dedicated to improving the school, and student life,” said Herbst. “It is also important to me to support the strategic plan to uplift the student voices and promote the changes that students desire.” Herbst does not shy away from any opportunity to get involved around campus. He is a Senator in Lindenwood Student Government, President of Collegiate Democrats, and holds officer roles in seven other Lindenwood clubs and organizations. Clayton Herbst is a freshman from Lake Saint Louis, Mo. Clayton is majoring in political science with an emphasis in pre-law and in international relations with dual minors in economics and digital marketing. He hopes to pursue a law degree, manage political campaigns, and run for office to serve his community. STUDENT PROFILE I really love Lindenwood, and I want to make this school the best it can be, which is why I am involved with so many organizations dedicated to improving the school, and student life… It is also important to me to support the strategic plan to uplift the student voices and promote the changes that students desire.
