Lindenwood’s Journal of Undergraduate Scholarship, The Confluence, is an online, interdisciplinary undergraduate journal. The mission of The Confluence is to promote undergraduate research and scholarship and undergraduate/faculty collaborative research and scholarship. To promote Lindenwood University’s commitment to real experience, real success, The Confluence also provides a platform for students to actively engage in the writing and publication process. 


All Lindenwood undergraduate members in good standing are eligible to submit research, scholarly and creative work. A student (or students) may submit after graduation so long as the majority of the work was completed before the author’s graduation. Collaborations between students and student/faculty are also welcome. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted. Questions regarding authorship and undergraduate status should be emailed to


The Confluence has a rolling submissions deadline. Electronic submissions are accepted at any time. The Confluence publishes issues in the spring and fall. Written submissions should be in English; visual or audio creative works can use any language but should include English subtitles. Submissions from any basic or applied field of study, including physical and life sciences, health sciences, business, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, humanities, education, engineering, media, communications, and the arts will be accepted.

Examples of submissions that may be accepted include the following:

  • Reports on empirical quantitative and qualitative research
  • Policy analysis
  • Historical analysis
  • Case studies
  • Theoretical articles
  • Methodological articles
  • Critical literary or artistic analysis
  • Novellas, individual short stories, or individual creative essays
  • Collections of poems
  • Plays or film scripts
  • Scores of musical works
  • Recordings of live music, theatre, dance performances, or broadcasts
  • Films, multimedia productions, or sound productions
  • Original choreographic work
  • Original works of art

Other types of submissions that may be accepted:

  • Summaries of works that have been published in other journals.
  • Summaries of significant projects undertaken by students or student/faculty collaboration.

Submissions Guidelines

Submissions to the journal may be sent at any time. If accepted, a submission will be published in the next available issue after it has been fully reviewed and prepared for publication. The Editorial Review Board looks forward to showcasing the intellectual contributions of the members of the Lindenwood community.
