LINDENWOOD JOINS PEDAL THE CAUSE In its 15-year history, Pedal the Cause has raised over $56 million for cancer research projects, supporting Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Last fall, Lindenwood was proud to serve as the main stage sponsor for the two-day event featuring food, music, and bike rides that range from 10-100 miles. With many members of the Lindenwood community taking part in the event, it was an excellent time to come together and support a great cause. BRINGING HOPE THROUGH BARBIE DOLLS Lindenwood student Caroline Gates is bringing hope to children with Type 1 Diabetes. Last summer, Mattel launched a new line of Barbie dolls that had Type 1 Diabetes and related devices. She set up a GoFundMe page, titled “Barbies with ‘Betes,” raising money to buy as many of these Barbies as possible. “I had my goal set at just a little over $1,000 and it was met in nine hours,” she recalls. “Then, I increased it to $2,500 and that was met in 12 hours.” She has delivered and plans to continue delivering Barbies to children. “All I’ve ever wanted to do is help kids and to make them feel love and to help them feel loved in a time that I know so well.” VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATION AT CEDARHURST SENIOR LIVING Continuing an annual tradition of sharing love and friendship with the St. Charles community, Lindenwood students and employees visited residents of Cedarhurst Senior Living for Valentine’s Day. The event was hosted by LindenGiving, the University’s community outreach endeavor. While Valentine’s Day is not always the easiest day for members of the senior community, the gifts, sweets, and conversation created a positive spirit around the Cedarhurst community. EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT SIGNED WITH NGA Lindenwood President Dr. John R. Porter signed an Education Partnership Agreement with West Executive Bill Caniano of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). This EPA will enhance Lindenwood’s educational leadership in the region, as well as provide high- demand workforce skills for students. Lindenwood students will use unclassified real-world data to solve problems in geospatial intelligence, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and human geographic issues in their courses and capstone experiences in particular. THE AMSINGER SERIES AT J. SCHEIDEGGER CENTER Baseball’s opening day is often regarded as a holiday for the St. Louis-region. Like many holidays, the day is preceded by a period of building excitement. This year, Lindenwood’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts played center stage to this excitement. On January 16, Lindenwood alumnus and MLB Network personality Greg Amsinger hosted a panel discussion with Cardinals’ Manager Oliver Marmol and General Manager Chaim Bloom. Labeled as a new era for baseball in St. Louis, the event centered around the duo’s rise to the Cardinals top decision-making roles. A crowd, wearing their Cardinals fan gear, listened closely and had the opportunity to ask questions about the past, present, and future of the franchise.
