Lindenwood Hires Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics
March 1, 2016
Brad Wachler has been hired as the vice president for intercollegiate athletics at Lindenwood University’s St. Charles campus, effective July 1.
Lindenwood System President Michael D. Shonrock made the announcement Tuesday. He said Wachler was a “great fit” and was selected from an initial pool of more than 130 candidates in the university’s national search, which was conducted by executive search firm Witt/Kieffer.
Currently senior associate athletics director at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, Wachler runs the day-to-day operations within the athletics department at CMU and has vast experience in finance, strategic planning, compliance/risk management, and more. He has a law degree from Wayne State University.
“We look forward to Brad’s arrival on campus and seeing the impact of his enthusiasm and leadership,” said Shonrock.
Wachler is eager to hit the ground running in St. Charles. He plans on visiting over Spring Break.
“It is my desire to build Lindenwood into a preeminent power in Division II,” he said. “There is a strong foundation in place. Lindenwood has some of the nicest facilities in the country, well-rounded students, and a visionary president who is committed to the success of intercollegiate athletics.”
Wachler is quick to credit Lindenwood’s retiring athletics director, John Creer, for his “dedicated leadership and unparalleled success.”
As Central Michigan’s senior associate athletics director, Wachler runs the $25 million department’s business operations and legal affairs. He also has primary sport oversight of football, men’s basketball, and baseball.
Wachler says he will focus on winning at Lindenwood – on the playing field and in the classroom, as well as in the community.
“Our student-athletes will consistently compete for conference and national championships,” he said. “And we will achieve great success in the classroom and will be fully engaged in both the St. Charles and the metropolitan communities.”
Besides his law degree, Wachler has a master’s in kinesiology from Indiana University and a bachelor’s in kinesiology from the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Melissa, will be moving to the St. Charles area this summer with their four children.
