Professor of Accounting Dr. Steve Coleman has been the named recipient of the OVC’s fourth annual Outstanding Faculty – Commitment to Student Success Award.
Established in 2023 by provosts from each Ohio Valley Conference member institution, the award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate exceptional commitment to student success through teaching, mentorship, curriculum development, and service.
Coleman, who has been a member of the Lindenwood faculty since 2011, takes a student-centered approach to teaching. In the classroom, he integrates real-world experience into the accounting curriculum while maintaining a strong focus on mentorship and long-term student outcomes.
His impact extends beyond coursework. Coleman works closely with students to develop individualized plans that support their personal, academic, and professional goals. One student-athlete commended Coleman for designing a plan that allowed the student to complete a master’s degree while maintaining athletic eligibility and meeting visa requirements.
Coleman’s commitment to accessibility and support is a defining part of his work. He regularly meets students and their families to help them stay on track academically and advocates for pursuing meaningful degree paths that fit their long-term goals.
In addition to his work with students, Coleman has contributed to the growth of Lindenwood’s academic programs. He has served as chair of the accounting department and department head for accounting, finance, and sports management. In these positions, Coleman led curriculum updates that strengthened alignment with CPA exam preparation and improved student outcomes.
In his recommendation letter for the award, Coleman was said to exemplify “the highest standards of faculty excellence regarding student success.” His work reflects Lindenwood’s commitment to putting students first, combining individualized mentorship with program-level impact that supports students across the University.
