Explore the Best of St. Charles – Just Steps Away from Campus
One of the best parts of being a student at Lindenwood University? You're surrounded by a city that blends historic charm, modern convenience, and plenty to do on your downtime. Whether you want to grab a coffee, go for a bike ride, shop, or catch a movie, you’re just minutes away.
Historic Main Street
About a 15-minute walk / 5-minute drive
Lined with cobblestone sidewalks and buildings dating back to the 1800s, Main Street is a great spot to meet up with friends, grab food, or explore unique shops. It’s also the place where Lewis and Clark began their westward journey in 1804—so yes, it’s got history, but also good coffee and pizza. Bonus: it’s also the route for Lindenwood’s Homecoming Parade every fall!
Frenchtown
About a 20-minute walk / 6-minute drive
Just north of Main Street, Frenchtown is quieter and more artsy, with antique shops, vintage finds, and the Foundry Art Centre, where you can check out rotating art exhibits or attend events.
Katy Trail
About a 10-minute walk to the nearest trail access
The Katy Trail runs right along the Missouri River and is perfect for biking, running, or just clearing your head. It’s the longest rail trail in the country, and it’s basically in your backyard.
Streets of St. Charles
7-minute drive
This is the newer, more modern side of town—with an AMC movie theater, plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. It’s a popular hangout spot for students, especially on weekends.
Local Festivals
Living in St. Charles means you’re never far from something fun going on downtown. A few favorites include:
