To keep our students safe, employees of Lindenwood University are unable to release information regarding a student to anyone beyond that student, and parents or legal guardians on the student's FERPA release. This being said, students will be unable to access information regarding suitemates.

Once you have selected a room and have a roommate, you as a student will have access to your new roommate's email. Additionally, any information your roommate provides in their StarRez profile will be available to you. 

Tip: Buy your bathroom supplies upon arrival to campus. This way you and your suitemates can shop together!

Guests must abide to all state, local and University policies. Residents are responsible for their guest(s) and their behavior. We require that students respect one another’s right to sleep, study, and be comfortable in their space. While the residents of each room determine the hours and terms upon which they will entertain guests, Overnight guests may not stay for a period longer than three consecutive days without specific permission from the Director of Residential Life and a maximum of 10 nights (total) for the semester, with approval from all roommates. Guests under the age of 18 are not permitted within the residence without specific permission from the Director of Residential Life.

Residential Life reserves the right to restrict students’ guest privileges at its discretion should individual issues emerge.

Residents are responsible for both their non-Lindenwood guest(s) and their commuter guest(s) regardless of the amount of time the guest is visiting. This means that the resident must inform their guest of all Residential Life and Lindenwood University policies and if the guest does not abide by them the resident may be held responsible for the guest’s actions. The guest may not be left unaccompanied; the host must be present at all times. In addition, if a guest violates policy, they may be banned from campus residential spaces and/or Lindenwood University. Commuters found in violation/present during university policies being broken will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct.

Pets are not permitted in any campus residence with the exception of fish, with a tank no larger than ten gallons. Pets such as snakes, toads, turtles, alligators, hamsters, dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, mice, rats, and other exotic animals are prohibited. Students with unauthorized pets will be required to remove the pet immediately from campus. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary financial action.

Service Animal and Emotional Support Animal Policy.

It is Lindenwood’s policy that students are not allowed to loft their beds. However, the beds may be bunked.

Another option to increase space in the room is to purchase a set of bed risers. With a standard set of 6 inch bed risers, the dresser will fit perfectly under your bed, along with other personal items you may choose to store there. 

Residential Assistants are student staff members who reside in the residence halls and can help with issues related to roommates or suitemates. They can help with maintenance issues, quiet hours issues, etc. 

In each Residence Hall there resides a Assistant Residential Community Coordinator or a Residential Community Coordinator. Residential Community Coordinators are full time employees of Lindenwood University and live in the Residential Halls for the safety and security of our students. If there is an issue that the Residential Assistant or Office Assistant is unable to resolve, they will seek out help from the Assistant Residential Community Coordinator or the Residential Community Coordinator.

All Residential Students are required to have a meal plan.

Discuss thermostat control with your suitemates, and check to see if they are covering any vents or leaving their windows open as this can cause temperature control issues for the whole suite.

If you are uncomfortable in your residence, seek help at the front desk of your Residential Hall. If you have an issue during hours in which there is not a Residential Assistant at the front desk email your Residential Community Coordinator.

Students are not allowed at any time to cover the vents or fire alarms. This is a fire safety hazard and is prohibited for all residents. If there is an issue with the temperature of your room contact your Residential Assistant.

All vehicles driven to campus by any student, staff, or faculty member must be registered and have a current Lindenwood University parking permit. This permit is to be displayed on the lower left hand corner of the back window. Parking permits are valid from July 1 through June 30 of each year. 

Before picking up your parking permit, you must register your vehicle online using the following procedure: Log in to StarRez using your Lindenwood email address and password; Select "Register Vehicle" and complete the vehicle registration form; Bring a paper or electronic copy of the confirmation to the Public Safety & Security Office (1905 First Capitol, Suite A, Saint Charles, MO 63301). Parking permits are included in cost of attendance through tuition or fees.

Vehicle registration for a given academic year will become available July. 

All mail is sent to the campus mailroom, not the individual residential halls.

Students have the option to sign up for a mailbox to receive smaller pieces of mail. Students have access to their mailbox during Evans Commons hours of operation.

When you have received a package you will be notified via student email. Packages may be picked up at the Campus Mailroom during their regular hours of operation. Students do not need to have a mailbox in order to receive packages.

The Residential Life Student Occupancy Contract is a legally binding contract the Student and Lindenwood University.  The contract should be carefully ready. This Contract is for the academic year and can only be cancelled without penalty on or before May 15.  Should Student cancel this Contract after May 15, and before the fall cancellation deadline of July 15, Student is responsible for a $250 cancellation fee (Spring cancellation deadline is December 1). Any questions about this contract should be referred only to the Residential Life Office at 636.949.4848 or reslife@lindenwood.edu.

Student shall abide by the terms of this Contract and the Student Handbook, and Student shall comply with all University rules, regulations, and policies, as well as all procedures and standards related thereto, all of which are made a part of this Contract by reference. 

Residential Occupancy Contract 2024-2025

Contract Cancellation

This Contract is for the academic year and can only be cancelled without penalty on or before May 15.  Should Student cancel this Contract after May 15, and before the fall cancellation deadline of July 15, Student is responsible for a $250 cancellation fee (Spring cancellation deadline is December 1). Upon submitting this Contract and receiving a housing assignment from University, Student is legally responsible for all amounts owed in accordance herewith. Students who are registered for classes and have a residency requirement to live on campus must go through the Contract Release Petition.

Contract Cancellation – University Withdrawal

If Student officially withdraws from the University before the end of the academic year, Student must complete the Exit process in the Office of Student Academic and Support Services, which is located in the Library and Academic Resources Center, room 354. Student is responsible for all charges accruing under this Contract until such time as Student completes the checkout process and returns Student’s key to residential staff.

If Student voluntarily withdraws from classes or if Student is dismissed from University for any reason, including for a violation of any University policy, Student will not be entitled to any refund of amounts paid hereunder.  An appeal can be submitted to the University Bursar's Office if there are mitigating circumstances that could warrant consideration for a refund of charges. 

Contract Cancellation – Appeal

A release from this Contract for reasons other than academic drop or official withdrawal from the University is highly unlikely. If Student feels that personal circumstances warrant consideration past the cancellation dates listed above, Student may request a copy of the Contract Release Petition from the Residential Life Office. Student shall submit the Contract Release Petition and additional supporting documentation to Residential Life (3010 Evans Commons) for consideration.

Contract Release – Academic Absence

If Student will not be utilizing University’s on-campus housing in the spring term because of participation in a University sponsored off-campus academic program such as study abroad, internship, student teaching, etc., Student shall contact the Residential Life Office by December 1 to avoid any fees or charges for the spring term.

Lindenwood University Athletics requires all students affiliated with an athletics team (regardless of if they receive athletic aid or not) to live on campus and be on a meal plan. Exceptions to this policy include:

• Full-time enrolled graduate students
• Students below the age of 17 or 25 years or older
• Married students
• Students who are physically supporting dependents
• Students who have been granted a medical exemption

To request an exemption from the Athlete Residency Policy, please submit the form below to reslife@lindenwood.edu. Please be aware that additional documentation may be required. 

If a student forfeits their athletic aid to live off campus, they will not be able to participate as a student-athlete. 

Lindenwood has a two-year residency requirement for traditional undergraduate students that requires students to live in university housing for their first two years in most circumstances. The following students are required to live in university housing.

· New first-year students, freshmen transfers, international students, and transfer students who have completed fewer than 24 credit hours.

· Any student affiliated with an athletic team, both NCAA and SLS, including scholarship student-athletes, non-scholarship student-athletes, team managers, etc.

· Students receiving scholarships that include residency as a scholarship requirement

Exceptions

The following exceptions to the university housing residency requirement may apply to first-year students who are not affiliated with an athletic team or receiving a scholarship that includes residency as a scholarship requirement.

· Students who reside in the primary residence of their parent(s), legal guardian(s) or international sponsoring family within a 35-mile radius of Lindenwood’s campus

· Students who are married or parenting

· Students who reach the age of 25 before the first day of the term

· Students who have not reached age 17 on the first day of the term

· Students who are veterans

Appeals

Students required to live in university housing may appeal this requirement to Lindenwood’s residency appeal committee. Appeals should be submitted in writing to the admissions office and include all reasons why the student believes they should not be required in live in university housing. The residency appeal committee will review each appeal and make decisions on a case-by-case basis. Students granted an appeal to the student housing residency requirement may be subject to an adjustment of the institutional financial aid if the residency status change affects their direct costs

Any request for a Service Animal or ESA must apply through the StarRez portal. Please apply to the Service Animal and ESA application. 

• Service Animal and Emotional Support Animal Policy

*Caution: Some internet websites sell certificates, registrations, and licensing documents that are typically insufficient to serve as documentation that would “reliably establish that an individual has a disability-related need for an assistance animal” (HUD January 2020), or that the provider has personal knowledge and history of the individual to be able to therapeutically prescribe an ESA as necessary for housing access, use and enjoyment.

As outlined in your housing agreement, Lindenwood University assumes no financial responsibility over the personal property of residents nor will the institution be financially responsible for large-scale, unintentional damage caused to university property by on-campus residents, such damage caused by a fire or discharge of a sprinkler-head.

GradGuard Renters Insurance is a smart investment for college students and their families. With the GradGuard Renter’s Insurance plan, personal items that are stolen or damaged by a covered cause of loss can be replaced, subject to a $100 deductible. GradGuard Renters Insurance also protects students financially from large scale, unintentional damage they may cause to their residence hall or bodily injury they may cause to others for which they are legally liable.
