Black History Month Events

Celebrate Black History Month with Lindenwood. Various organizations across campus have scheduled special events in recognition of Black History Month. The Lindenwood Black Student Union (BSU) has made this year’s theme, Honoring the past and embracing the future. As part of Lindenwood’s commitment to embracing diversity, all events are open to the campus community and all are encouraged to participate. 

February 8

Black Out Day

BSU encourages individuals to wear all black attire. Black Out Day symbolizes unity and solidarity among Lindenwood students, faculty, and staff.

Movie Night

BSU will host a movie night in honor of a series of different events to celebrate Black History Month. They will screen Netflix original, Amateur. This event will take place in the LARC Theater, 7-9 p.m.

Black Liberation Through the Marketplace: Hope, Heartbreak, and the Promise of America

As part of their annual and recognition of Black History Month, the Hammond Institute will hosting an event.  Rachel Ferguson, of Concordia University Chicago, will discuss her new book "Black Liberation in the Marketplace: Hope, Heartbreak, and the Promise of America", coauthored with Marcus Witcher.

"If we face America’s racial history squarely, will it mean that the American project is a failure? Conversely, if we think the American project is a worthy endeavor, do we have to lie, downplay, or equivocate about our past?”

The event will run from 3-4 p.m. and will feature a short presentation followed by a Q&A session. The event will be held in-person in Harmon Hall (Dunseth Auditorium) and virtually via Zoom. This event is free, and registration is required.

Paint with Love and 90’s Day

Join BSU in the Hyland Arena VIP Room, 6-8 p.m. and paint with your significant other or bring a friend. Wear your best 90’s attire this day and be camera ready.

Black Trivia Night

Come enjoy a trivia night with questions centered around Black History, hosted by the BSU. This event will take place in the Spellmann Center room 4105 from 7-9 p.m.

February 17

Wild N’ Out pt. 2

Join BSU in the LARC Theater from 7-9 p.m. for a rendition of comedy and improv TV game show created by Nick Cannon. The event will consist of students playing, participating, and acting out games from the show.

Black Music Artist Day

Dress as your favorite music artist and be camera ready! Black Music Artist Day is a way to remember the music that has played an influential part in shaping black culture and to highlight the artists who shaped the industry.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Awards and Rededication of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force, in partnership with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, is hosting the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award Ceremony and will celebrate the rededication of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion with a ribbon cutting. The event will take place 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. in the AB Leadership Room on the top floor of the Spellmann Center. St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney and Lindenwood alum, Mr. Wesley Bell, will this year's keynote speaker. There will be a rededication of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion in its new space immediately following the awards ceremony. There will also be a Church Service following the events in the Sibley Chapel at 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.. Registration is free.
