At the May 2026 meeting of the Lindenwood Education System Board of Trustees, board veteran Gary Shaw was named a lifetime member after 35 years of service.
Board Chair Donald E. Tuttle awarded Shaw a commemorative medal and the lifetime recognition. “It was a true honor to award Gary Shaw the Board of Trustees Lifetime Membership Award for his 35 years of unwavering service and dedication to Lindenwood,” Tuttle said. “Gary is a true gentleman and deserved individual who will be greatly missed.” Shaw retired from the Board earlier this year, concluding his formal service in April.
Shaw joined the Lindenwood University Board of Trustees in 1991, shortly after former President Emeritus Dennis Spellmann assumed his role. Much of his professional career was spent with Morgan Stanley, where he was a financial advisor and Senior Vice President. In recent years, Shaw has been active on several board committees, including Advancement, Finance and Audit, Athletics, Fundraising, and Board Development.
An active member of the community, Shaw received several accolades over his career, including Youth In Need’s Man of the Year, Dean Witter Reynolds’ Broker of the Year, and the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Distinguished Service Award. Shaw was also recognized with an honorary doctoral degree from his alma mater, Iowa Wesleyan University.
Alongside his wife Joyce, Shaw has been a tremendous supporter of the University and has several named gifts including the Gary and Joyce Shaw Business Administration Scholarship. In particular, the Shaws are passionate about supporting Lindenwood student-athletes and the Athletics Department. Over three decades of service to Lindenwood, Shaw has demonstrated a commitment to Lindenwood’s mission and has demonstrated his passion for helping others succeed.
