LindenGiving Hosts Second Backpack Stuffing Party for St. Charles Students

On April 20, Lindenwood faculty, staff, and students volunteered their time to stuff 150 backpacks full of school supplies for elementary, middle, and high school students as part of LindenGiving, a community outreach endeavor.

Although this is the second year that LindenGiving has held a backpack stuffing party, it is our first year to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles.

“We’re excited to partner with this neighboring organization to assist and equip students with the tools needed to start their 2022-23 school year off well,” LindenGiving Chair Beverly Porter said. “We are thankful to be able to help level the playing field in this regard for our local youth.”

Backpacks were filled with essential school supplies such as binders, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, calculators, pencils, pens, colored pencils, a Lindenwood water bottle, scissors, glue sticks, and much more. They will be distributed to students during the Boys & Girls Clubs Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on July 30 at the St. Charles unit.

This community gathering is free to St. Charles County families, and in addition to the distribution of free school supplies the event often includes games, lunch, food distribution, registration for after school memberships as well as the securing of after school transportation with the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles.

“We wanted this event to be one where parents could get supplies for school but also have access to other resources their families may need,” Community Impact Coordinator at the Boys & Girls Clubs St. Charles unit and Lindenwood alumnus Desmond Niboh said. “The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County's mission is to enable all youth to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Our Back to School Bashes are a great way for us to help provide these necessary resources to families."

The LindenGiving program hosts quarterly outreach initiatives to directly impact the city of St. Charles. We appreciate the support of the Lindenwood community in our endeavors.
