Osborn Barr Paramore Establishes Emily Suttles Endowed Scholarship

Honoring Lindenwood alumni through scholarships is a powerful way to celebrate the life and legacy of graduates. In late May, Lindenwood University had the honor of recognizing the Emily Suttles Endowed Scholarship in a ceremony with family and colleagues.

A proud alumna of Lindenwood University, Emily graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity. Additionally, Emily was pursuing a master’s in cybersecurity management. In her honor, the Emily Suttles Endowed Scholarship was established in November 2021, shortly after Emily passed.

The scholarship was funded by Emily’s employer, Osborn Barr Paramore, who wanted to do something very special to honor her memory as she was a beloved member of the team. In celebration of Emily’s passion for her industry, the scholarship has been designated to support a female student studying information technology and a reception was held in recognition of Emily and the scholarship.

At the reception, Professor of Information Technology, Dr. Angela Holden, shared a few remarks. “It is especially close to my heart that this scholarship is dedicated to female students in IT and Cybersecurity,” Holden said.  “Not only am I a female who grew up in this technical field and have first-hand experience of what it’s like, I also see my female students juggling home, family, work, and school, to earn their degree and get a good, well-paying job in IT or Cybersecurity so they can support their families better and be a role model for their children.  I believe that awarding a scholarship to a student is an enabler, but it is also an encouragement to help them succeed.”

Dean of the College of Science, Technology, and Health, Dr. Cynthia Schroeder, reinforced the importance of women in industry and expressed how impactful the generous gift from Osborn Barr Paramore will be.

Joining Holden and Schroeder for the presentation were Emily’s parents, Jim and Debbie, colleagues from Osborn Barr Paramore, and members of the Lindenwood University Advancement and Alumni Relations teams. The University is honored to carry on Emily’s legacy and embrace her passion for the field of information technology and cybersecurity through the Emily Suttles Endowed Scholarship.
