Community leader and capacity-building catalyst Nina Needleman, in partnership with College of Arts and Humanities at Lindenwood University, will host Rise & Run: Running for School Board. A nonpartisan lunch and learn, the event is designed to prepare women to pursue leadership roles in local government.
“Capacity building isn’t limited to nonprofit organizations,” said Needleman. “It also happens in our communities when thoughtful, prepared leaders step forward to serve. Rise & Run exists to help women move from ‘I’ve thought about it’ to ‘I’m ready.’”
The event will feature a panel of seasoned leaders who will share their experiences. Topics will include running for office, governing effectively, and preparing for the realities of public service. Panelists include University City School District Board Member Karen Bernstein, Ferguson-Florissant School District Board Member Jamal Bailey, Francis Howell School Board Member and Parkway middle school teacher Sarah Oekle. The conversation will be moderated by former Missouri State Senator and experienced public servant Jill Schupp.
Rise & Run is a leadership initiative created to support women considering roles in public service, particularly local offices such as school boards, city councils, and community leadership positions. This event aligns with Lindenwood’s commitment to offering experiences that prepare students and the community for future success.
Community members, students, and employees interested in learning more about running for school board or supporting women in public leadership are encouraged to attend. Tickets can be purchased for $20 each, and are available through the Lindenwood Box Office.
