Lindenwood University’s newest students participated in the Walk of Pride on Friday, August 21. A new tradition, the Walk of Pride was designed to mark the beginning of their student experience at Lindenwood.
Together as a class, the newest Lindenwood students walked through the historic Lindenwood College gates on the heritage side of campus. The students were met by Lindenwood faculty, staff, and fellow students who cheered along the route. The significance of the walk through the historic gates recognizes the many generations of Lindenwood students who have come before the new Lions.
The Walk of Pride is designed to serve as the first half of a tradition that will bookend each student’s Lindenwood experience. As students begin their academic journey, they walk through the historic gates and receive a commemorative lapel pin. At graduation, students will take part in a similar experience by walking through the new, horizon gates and receive their alumni pin.
“This walk was a wonderful way to show our students how thrilled we are for them and sets the tone for school spirit and excitement right off the bat,” said Executive Assistant to the President and member of the Traditions Committee Amanda Hyde. “Four years from now, when this group of students walks back through the gate as graduates, we hope they will reminisce about this event and all of the wonderful memories they will have had at Lindenwood.”
For the incoming class, the event marked one of their first official moments as Lindenwood students and the beginning of the memories that will shape their time at the University. Lindenwood Student Government President Maria Clark offered welcome remarks to the new student. “You are now part of a story that started long before any of us got here. What Lindenwood becomes next will be shaped by what you choose to do while you’re here,” Clark said.
With their first steps through the historic gates now behind them, the Lindenwood University Class of 2030 officially begins their Lindenwood journey. The Walk of Pride symbolizes the opportunities ahead and the lasting bond these students will share long after they walk through the new horizon gates as graduates.
