WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, in cooperation with the Institute of International Education, are pleased to announce the launch of the 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. Student Program application.

Since 1946, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program has provided emerging American leaders with an unparalleled opportunity to study, conduct research, and serve as English teaching assistants abroad in order to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program currently awards over 1,900 grants annually and operates in more than 140 countries worldwide.

In addition to hundreds of traditional study and research grants, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program currently offers more than 1,000 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant awards to over 70 countries.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program selects participants through a competitive, merit-based application process, and offers several benefits during the period of the grant. These include funding for round-trip travel, living expenses for one academic year, and healthcare benefits.

Applicants to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program must be U.S. citizens and hold a bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent) by the beginning of the grant period. Individuals may be, but are not required to be, currently enrolled in a college or university at the time of application. Early career professionals in a range of fields, including artists, are eligible and encouraged to apply.

For more information, please visit the Fulbright U.S. Student Program website, http://us.fulbrightonline.org.

Students currently enrolled at Lindenwood University should contact their campus Fulbright Program Adviser for more information. Applications must be submitted electronically to Elizabeth Snell by the campus closing date of September 10, 2020. Applications must be submitted by the October 12, 2021 national deadline.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and has provided more than 380,000 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. The primary source of funding for the Fulbright Program is an annual appropriation by the United States Congress to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations in foreign countries and in the United States also provide direct and indirect support.

The Institute of International Education supports the implementation of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, including the annual competition for awards, on behalf of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
