Get Money Smart @ Lindenwood - 2021

Academics NAVIGATION

Engage yourself through Get Money Smart @ Lindenwood, a campus-wide financial and economic education initiative. The program equips students, faculty, staff, and friends of Lindenwood with common-sense principles and practices to take control of their finances and be responsible decision makers.  It focuses on the key pillars of budgeting, saving, investing, spending, borrowing, and planning.  Every Tuesday in April from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, dynamic speakers from Lindenwood will gather to discuss practice personal finance and how to use economic reasoning to make financially sound decisions.  For convenience, sessions will take place both virtually and in-person in Dunseth Auditorium in Harmon Hall (All Lindenwood policies and procedures related to in-person gatherings will be followed, such as social distancing, mask wearing, and limited room capacity).  Additional events and activities will enrich the learning experience.

Participating students can win worthwhile prizes like $25 gift cards after each event.

Faculty and staff who register can earn professional development credit automatically from the Lindenwood Learning Academy.

Get Money Smart @ Lindenwood is part of the campus and community outreach of the Economic Education Center with support from the PRIDE Fund.

Please contact us if you are interested in supporting this new annual initiative that will make a difference in the lives of many students.

Financial Stress and Mental Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic

6 - 7 p.m. (CST)

Presenters: Catherine Shoff, Ph.D. and MPH
                 Bryce Takenaka, Lindenwood alum

Chronic stress causes physiological changes in the human body that can contribute to serious health concerns, such as heart disease, diabetes, depression, and anxiety. One source of prolonged stress is financial hardship from lack of stable income, paying off debt, or loss of job. In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, states and counties mandated the closing of non-essential businesses or reduction in capacity. This resulted in significant job loss. One in four adults had a hard time paying their bills and many individuals had to borrow money from family or friends to pay for food or living expenses. Low-income individuals, Black or Hispanic Americans, and those without a college degree were most impacted. This interactive session will explore the effects of financial stress on physical and mental health, highlighting the added strain of COVID-19, and share tips on how to be financially healthy.

This event is FREE, but registration is required.
