Program Mission

The mission of the athletic training program is to deliver a student-centered graduate experience that focuses on innovative teaching and diverse experiential learning opportunities to promote higher-order thinking, clinical application, and self-reflection. Through a patient-centered, holistic approach, students will be prepared to serve the community and the expanding healthcare profession as competent and confident athletic trainers.

Program Goals

  1. Develop confident, competent, and skilled professionals prepared for the Board of Certification examination and entry-level professional practice.
  2. Identify and select high quality candidates with the greatest potential for academic success, clinical development, and program completion.
  3. Identify, recruit, and retain a diverse teaching and clinical faculty.
  4. Promote excellence and innovation in all instructional aspects of the curriculum, including classroom teaching, laboratory instruction, and all forms of assessment.
  5. Provide support and develop a culture of continuous improvement for didactic and clinical teaching effectiveness.
  6. Provide opportunities for students to gain clinical experience as part of a healthcare team with diverse patient populations and a variety of conditions commonly seen in athletic training practice.
  7. Provide diverse clinical experiences through the continued development, evaluation, and advancement of affiliated clinical sites.
  8. Provide high-quality clinical supervision through the continued identification, training, and evaluation of clinical preceptors.
  9. Provide exceptional facilities, equipment, and other physical resources to support student development.
  10. Provide opportunities to students to collaborate with faculty and participate in scholarly activity.
  11. Provide opportunities for faculty and students to participate in professional meetings, community events, and other activities that promote the advancement of the profession and interprofessional relationships.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Graduates will demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide exceptional patient-centered care as an entry-level professional athletic trainer.
  2. Graduates will demonstrate knowledge and skill in planning, conducting, analyzing, and applying clinical research in the field of athletic training. 
  3. Graduates will support holistic patient-centered health care through effective communication and interprofessional collaboration.
  4. Graduates will support the profession and demonstrate professional behaviors consistent with the NATA Code of Ethics and the Board of Certification’s Standards of Professional Practice.
