First-Generation Students
What Does First-Generation Mean?
A first-generation college student is generally a student whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) did not complete a four-year college degree. Every first-generation experience is different, and there is no single way to be a first-gen student.
Own Your First-Gen Journey
Being the first in your family to attend college is a big deal—and you don’t have to navigate the experience alone. Lindenwood is committed to helping first-generation students find connection, build confidence, and make the most of their college experience.
Whether you’re looking for a community of students who understand your experience, opportunities to build leadership skills, or support as you navigate college, there are resources and experiences designed with first-generation Lions in mind.
A bridge from where you are to where you’re going.
LindenFirst is a bridge program designed to help first-generation students transition into the Lindenwood community and college experience. Through intentional programming, connections, and support, LindenFirst helps students build relationships, develop confidence, and gain the knowledge and resources they need to navigate their first year at Lindenwood.

Connect. Lead. Make your mark.
First-Gen Collegians brings first-generation students together to build community, share experiences, and create opportunities for connection and leadership. It’s a space to regularly meet with other first-gen Lions, celebrate your journey, and continue growing throughout your time at Lindenwood.
Meeting dates and times can be found on Mane Connection.
Celebrate How Far You’ve Come.
You made it. Let’s celebrate! First-Year Finale is an annual celebration recognizing first-generation students as they complete their first year at Lindenwood. It’s a chance to reflect on how far you’ve come, celebrate your accomplishments, and connect with first-generation faculty and staff who understand the journey. Come celebrate the work, growth, and memories that made your first year uniquely yours.
Event details and updates will be posted on Mane Connection.
