Steven C. SuessAssistant Professor, Belleville Main 210
Steven Suess is an assistant professor and Division Chair for Education and Counseling at the Belleville campus, where is serves the administrator for undergraduate and graduate education and counseling programs. Previously, Dr. Suess was the Director of Elementary Education and principal in the Lindbergh School District in St. Louis County for 23 years. During that time he was involved with many character education initiatives including leading his school to become a National School of Character in 2000, and a
Missouri Gold Star School in 2001. He has served as a national site visitor for the Character Education Partnership in Washington, D.C. as well as for Characterplus
in Missouri. Currently, he is serving at the Immediate Past President of the Friends of Characterplus.
Locally, Dr. Suess is a member of the Board of Directors of BASIC (Belleville Achieves Strength in Character) as well as a member of the Education Committee of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce. At LU-B, Suess serves on the Development committee. In addition, Dr. Suess serves on several foundations.
Dr. Suess earned is BA in English and Communications at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, his MS and EdS in School Administration at SIU-E, and his EdD in Educational Leadership at Saint Louis University.
Dr. Suess’s extensive work in character education has earned him the
following awards: A World of Difference Community Service Award, Eddy Award (State of MO Education Dept.), KSDK Educator Award, Shining Star Educator Award (St. Louis Science Center), and the
Dean’s Award for Excellence in Character Education (University of MO-St.Louis).
