Hyland Arena Plays Host to National Guard ‘Welcome Home’ Ceremony

Lindenwood University hosted a “welcome home” ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 8, for 232 members of the 1st Battalion, 138th Infantry Regiment of the Missouri National Guard. The troops, returning from a year-long deployment securing coalition forces in Qatar, were greeted by approximately 1,200 of their family and friends, who stood and applauded as they entered the arena.

“It was heartwarming to see them reunited with their families,” said Joe Alsobrook, dean of the university’s School of Arts, Media, and Communications, who helped arrange the space for the event with the National Guard. “We at Lindenwood are grateful for all that our veterans do for their country, and this is one way that we can say ‘thank you.’”
